The emperor of mushrooms is called by its Chinese name, Lingzhi mushroom, or by its Japanese name, Reishi, in many countries. This edible mushroom whose scientific name is Ganoderma lucidum has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years and shrinks only slightly when dried. In East Asia, the lingzhi mushroom is a traditional symbol of well-being, long life, physical and mental fitness, sexual activity, wisdom and wealth. It is rich in much needed micronutrients such as iron, magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, manganese and germanium. In addition, the typical tree-inhabiting fungus contains lots of polysaccharides and triterpenes. It is not only used in Asian countries to stimulate the immune system and strengthen the bodys defences, but also to prevent intolerances.
